Thailand Privilege Points System

A new addition to the Thailand Privilege program is the introduction of the Thailand Privilege Points System. This brand-new scheme gives you an allotment of privilege points every year that you can redeem for the benefits listed above. This gives you the ability to choose your perks instead of being locked into a standard array of rewards.

Each membership tier provides a different amount of points per year, and your points reset the moment the following year begins. For instance, if you have a GOLD membership package, you are entitled to 20 privilege points per year, and the total will reset to 20 every year regardless of how many you spent in the previous year. Here are some examples of some of the perks you can acquire and their costs:

1 Point

  • Buy 1 get 1 free movie tickets at select leading cinemas
  • Complimentary nights or dining at leading hotel establishments
  • Airport Transfer and Lounges
  • Select Spa Packages
  • Access to an Elite Personal Liaison (EPL) for 90-day reporting assistance

2 Points

  • Golf Course Packages
  • VIP Sport Tournament Tickets
  • Dental Services Packages
  • Access to an Elite Personal Liaison (EPL) for assistance with opening a bank account
  • Access to an Elite Personal Liaison (EPL) for assistance with obtaining a Thai driver’s license

Thailand Privilege Application Process

Before applying, it is recommended to consult a government-partnered General Sales and Services Agent (GSSA). GSSAs deliver free assistance in helping you complete your application, offering useful services ranging from reviewing your documents to even submitting your application on your behalf. With a GSSA working closely by your side, you will be able to acquire your visa as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The application consists of the following steps:

  • Contact a GSSA and receive an application checklist from them to help you compile all the documents you need for the application.
  • Pay the application fee and submit all your required documents to your GSSA, who will thoroughly review your documents before submitting them through Thailand Privilege’s online application portal.
  • Your application will progress through a background check conducted by the Thai Immigration Authorities. Your GSSA will share with you your login details for the application portal so you can continue to monitor your application.
  • Upon successful completion of your background check, you must await delivery of the approval letter and payment invoice.
  • Follow the instructions on the invoice to pay your membership fees directly to Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd.
  • Await the delivery of your Welcome Letter and Membership ID. The start date of your membership begins the moment you receive these two items. While optional, members can also apply for a physical Thailand Privilege Card.
  • Book an appointment with the member contact center to affix the visa sticker to your passport. You can choose to do it at a Thai international airport (if abroad), Royal Thai Consulate or Thai Embassy (if abroad), or Thai Immigration Office at Chaeng Wattana in Bangkok.

Timeline of Application Process

  • The timeline for the whole application process is estimated to be between 1 to 3 months.
  • The background check will take between 4 to 6 weeks.
  • After receiving your approval letter and invoice, you have 30 days to pay your membership fee. You can receive confirmation that your membership fee payment has been successfully received within 1-2 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can family members be added to a Thailand Privilege membership?
Yes, you can add your family members to the Platinum, Diamond, and Reserve memberships for an additional fee:
  • PLATINUM: 1,000,000 baht per additional family member
  • DIAMOND: 1,500,000 baht per additional family member
  • RESERVE: 2,000,000 baht per additional family member
  1. Are there any age/financial/education/employment requirements?
There are no age, financial, education, employment, or income requirements that you need to meet to qualify for a Thailand Privilege Visa.
  1. How does the privilege points system benefit members?

Every membership comes with a certain number of privilege points that refresh every year. This method:

  • Having more flexibility over which perks to choose and utilize through redeeming points.
  • The points required for certain privileges are often inexpensive, meaning you can find yourself only spending between 1-3 points per privilege.
  • Every year the points reset back to the default amount for each membership package. This means if you didn’t get the benefit you wanted in one year, you can redeem your points for it the subsequent year.
  1. How many points are required for each benefit?

The full list of privilege point benefits and their costs is far too long to list in its entirety, but here are some examples that should give you an idea about average costs:

  • 1 point: Used to purchase privileges such as airport transfers, complimentary dining nights, spa packages, access to fitness centers, and Elite Personal Liaison services.
  • 2 points: Used to acquire privileges such as airport transfers via luxury vehicles, dental checkups, health checks, free rounds of golf, and tickets to sporting events.
  • 3 points: Used for privileges such as domestic roundtrip flights, airport transfers for longer hauls, private tours, health and wellness packages, and tickets to world-class concerts.
  1. What’s the difference between the old Thailand Elite packages and the newer Thailand Privilege packages?

The differences are mostly in terms of pricing, types of memberships on offer, and the benefits available for each. The new membership packages, for example, provide far more VIP benefits that can be customized to your liking thanks to the new privilege points system.

Thailand Privilege Memberships also include new, additional privileges not present with the old Thailand Elite Visa program. This includes:

  • Free VIP seating and movie ticket deals
  • Personal accident insurance
  • Access to co-working spaces and networking events
  • Events and special gifts on birthdays and on a seasonal basis
  • The ability to rent private jets, yachts and boats
  • Wealth advisory seminars
  • And much, much more
  1. Do holders of a Thailand Privilege Visa gain access to an Elite Personal Liaison?

Yes, as a member you have the right to consult a Thailand Privilege staff for support on your needs. By spending 1-2 privilege points, you have access to the services of an Elite Personal Liaison (EPL) to help you with the following duties:

  • 90-day reporting (1 point)
  • Guidance on how to open a Thai bank account (2 points)
  • Guidance on how to acquire a Thai driver’s license (2 points)
  • Other government-related services
  1. Are holders of an ED Visa or Volunteer Visa still disqualified from applying for a membership?

If you currently possess or used to hold an ED Visa, you can still qualify for a Thailand Privilege Visa, provided you can prove that you obtained your ED Visa through legal means and your education institution is legitimate. You can accomplish this by completing an Education Visa Holder Acknowledgement Form and providing the required documents from your education institution.

If you currently hold or held a volunteer visa in the past, you will not be eligible to apply for a Thailand Privilege Visa. There is currently no news on whether this rule will change.

  1. As a holder of an old Thai Elite membership, can I upgrade to a new membership scheme?

If you are a holder of an old Thai Elite Visa, you can choose to upgrade to one of the newer Thailand Privilege schemes for access to the new privileges with a discount.

  1. Are there any changes to the list of concerned nationalities and restricted countries?

So far, there aren’t many changes to which countries are no longer or are now restricted from applying for a Thailand Privilege visa. The only country that technically benefits the most from these new changes is China, due to a number of reasons:

  • Chinese nationals are no longer forced to undergo criminal record/background checks that are lengthier than those from other nationalities.
  • Chinese applicants are no longer required to reach out to Interpol first.

Other nationalities remain the same, though Thailand Privilege has specified that there will be changes on the horizon.

  1. Can I apply for a physical Thailand Privilege card?

Yes, you can. After earning your membership ID and welcome letter, you will be able to apply for a physical Thailand Privilege card. This is completely optional and involves completing an entirely separate application. There are two benefits to having this document:

  • You can provide physical proof of your Thailand Privilege membership to authorities as well as your friends, family, and co-workers.
  • Some establishments may require membership cards as physical confirmation of your membership status. The inability to present a card may prevent you from using your privilege points at these venues.

A physical membership card can be sent either by mail to your address in Thailand or you can pick it up at the Thailand Privilege desk at the airport (the same location you affixed your new visa to your travel document).

  1. Do I receive the same immigration benefits as with Thai Elite?

Yes, as with the old Thai Elite Visa, you do not need a re-entry permit, you can open a Thai bank account and acquire a Thai driver’s license, and there are no annual fees required to maintain these benefits.

However, the introduction of the privilege point system does mean that a lot of these are only obtainable through privilege points. You may need to redeem privilege points to obtain the following perks:

  • Free bank account assistance
  • Free driver's license assistance
  • Free agent to support you with your 90-day reporting
  • Other government benefits

This gives you the option of spending your points on these services, or doing them yourself and keeping the points for other fun and rewarding perks. This element of choice is not present with the old Thai Elite Visas, which had static benefit offerings.
